Fall Season is back, and some would say it is the best time of the year. Football, football, and more football. Well, this Sunday, it all changes. Frisbee is back and better than ever. Whether your NFL team is trash, and you can’t stand to watch them or you’re too hung ogre from another Gator loss, it’s time to free yourself from that misery and play some frisbee. This season’s theme is Shrek and I’m ogre the moon with all the creative team names! I present you with my very wrong pre-season predictions from my side of the swamp.
6th Place – Everybody Likes Parfaits
Unfortunately, someone has to finish last. Jemima and Pat drafted what looks to be an enjoyable and huck-happy team. I’ve heard through the Swamp Vine that Steven won’t be in attendance for either playoff week. Ellie and Joe have become quite the dynamic duo, but I’ve heard whispers that Joe disappears during the playoffs. This team finds success if they allow Vish, Buenrostro, Jemima, and Pat to run the offense with Steven taking a majority of the shots to Ellie or Joe downfield. Regardless due to both Steven and Joe’s disappearing acts, this team finishes last.
5th Place – Duloc Dingers
Another team that if attendance wasn’t a question I truly believe could be the best team in the Swamp. Jack is the biggest and most dominant threat in this season’s draft and is paired with a 60-yard chicken wing from Andrew Cory and a lethal inside backhand from Kevin Switzer. Sam Williams is the biggest track star league has seen in quite some time. Pair that with Van and Devon and every team has an issue matching up against the Dingers. Top that off with Ani, Jess, Allison, and Clea and they essentially have no weakness on paper. Look for Ben Stone and Milan Hooper to surprise some folks as well. Unfortunately, Jack, Sam, and Andrew are all a part of UF Club which always seems to have a tournament fall on league playoff dates.
4th Place – Puss in Cleats
This team is loaded. Sam Lovelace is one of the purest throwers in the league, pair him with a former first-round pick in Fletcher and you can’t go wrong. Plant, Fartzog, and Schimmel are savvy veterans who all will play a pivotal role in this team’s success. I see Liz and Jenna being atop the FMP scoring leaderboard. Look for Will Cunningham to be the sleeper pick on this squad. I predict this team will play good zone defense, beat some of the top teams, and have a good run but fall short in the end.
3rd Place – Short Kings
It’s hard to rank any team with Dustin and Kate anything but first, yet here we are. This team will be extremely patient and annoying to play against. Although neither Dustin, Yanuck, Clyde, nor Bryant stands above 5’8 they are all great and methodical handlers, oh and two of them are lefthanded. Throwing to Jenny and Manny may prove difficult to some but I don’t foresee it being an issue for the Short Kings. Bowlin and Danny would be most helpful in stretching the field and catching garbage balls. When all else fails, clear the deep space, swing until everyone is tired, and then Kate will go deep, and Dustin will send a perfect huck her way. Andrew Yanuck is my sleeper pick for this team, welcome back to town, King.
2nd Place – Get Shreked
Sheesh. This team is going to beat you deep consistently. Andrew Wright is coming off an MVP Summer League. His favorite throw is a flick huck to any and everybody. Add in the greatest thrower league has ever seen in Adub and you have yourself a dynamic handler duo who can put it anywhere on the field. My worry with this team is that I believe they will have too many chefs in the kitchen. Former pro Naomi Anderson will want to cook a majority of the time, and Mohammed will be calling for the disc nonstop for 5-yard gainers. If this team utilizes its cutters in Coley, Jay, Mo, Tommy, Jacob, Jo, and Howard, they could easily win it all. The swamp is telling me this team of varying personalities will either come together to be one of the best or crumble into one of the biggest disappointments of late. Look for Jo Harrow to be the glue to this team working out and winning it all.
1st Place – OGres
If you think any other team will win this season, you are wrong. This team is solid from the top to the bottom. Nic Bainter continues to dominate league after league. Trey has become one of Zach’s favorite downfield targets. Ben is recovering and slowly getting back to his former round 1 self. Karl Schults is the best player from the Corner Crew Crop. Brad loves Michigan. KJ, Nic, and Ben in a cup for zone defense will haunt us all. They left the draft with the best FMP pair in Jia and Kennedy, pairing them with Michelle and Bonnie making this team look like they could give the local mixed club team problems. Look for Phillip Stokes to be this team’s sleeper pick. You aren’t going to win any arguments against this team so don’t bother contesting calls or calling anything, you must outplay them to win.
I hope you have enjoyed my very rough and ogrely wrong rankings. Can’t wait to see the season unfold throughout the fall.
