Week 3: Red v Blue

Week 3 Captains Report

Scarlet Letter Scoobers (Red) v Nasty Heather? (Blue)

Outcome: Red 10 – Blue 15

This game started out looking like it was going to be a fairly even matchup. With Blue having a few missing players, most notably Matya and Bari, I was hoping we might be able to capitalize and pull out a win, but unfortunately that was not in the cards for us.

We managed to keep the game relatively close before ultimately losing. With our roster, we thought we may be able to throw a decent zone against blue and keep them contained but with the monster deep threat Alek and consistent cutting from Emory and Tommy (among others), blue had too much movement. When we shifted to person defense, we were able to keep up, but it was our own errors that put us in the ground this week.

There were many times when we worked the disc very steadily and chilly up the field, but lost it all in the red-zone, giving Blue all the chances they needed to be able to keep putting the disc away for scores. A little more chilly on our side and the outcome of this game would have been very different. I look forward to a possible rematch in the bracket, after we have a little more time to fine-tune our movements.

Some blue team shoutouts:

  • Emory and Emily worked their butts off getting open on the field, not seeming to get tired even though they had no subs for half the points this game.
  • I believe it was Jeremy?? who had some sick layouts and bids all over the field to save possession. We love to see a player that has not been wrecked by old age yet
  • Lyle, Schimmel, Jeff, and Alek all showed excellent work with the disc to keep blue moving up field

Red team shoutouts:

  • Jordan Harris got her first score of league this game! Woot woot!
  • Speedy somehow racked up a total of 5 assists this game, accounting for half of our total for the game
  • Jim Davis proves himself to be an excellent team mate, showing up and being a good sideline even though he can’t play right now

Week 3 Red Team MVP: Oye Shofolu! Racking up 4 of our scores this game, being the most intimidating deep look on our team, and playing excellent defense. Oye is tall, just FYI, but he also knows how to move and cut on the field to consistently find himself open. A few seasons from now, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him going in the first couple rounds of the league draft. You heard it here first.
