Week 1: Short Stack All-In Against Pocket Rockets

Quick game recap since an unfortunate friendly fire incident took me out for almost all of the second half and I don’t remember specifics. Aces had the typical first game chemistry issues and came out slow. We jumped out to a 7-3 lead behind calm and cool handling from our vets, and good defensive pressure making their handlers uncomfortable. Aces started to figure things out and we let off the gas a bit, making it a much closer 8-6 (or 7??) half. More of the same in the second half, with Max finally realizing that Jack is tall and our team is, well, short. We did just enough to maintain our lead and force a universe point win led by the Switzer boys.

Aces played well after the initial 10 points and are going to be a pain in the butt for every team they face. They have the best Patel in Gainesville and he had a monster rip over Clyde for a goal.

After missing preseason, I was itching to see how the team we drafted would come together. With a lot of known entities already (our regulars of BB, Clyde, Bueno, etc.), I felt like the direction of our team would really come down to the unknowns. Who are Stephen and Wes? Will Switzer be the hammer turnover machine of years past, or the absolutely unguardable force that he was at Frostbreaker. Bad news for the other teams, all those unknowns are looking up for Short Stack.

Stephen was an absolute monster, catching everything thrown his way. Wes played his first full length Frisbee game ever and is extremely coachable and quick to learn. We threw him into the deep end of playing up front in the zone against one of the better handlers in league in Max and he helped generate a turn on the first D point! Kswiss didn’t throw a single hammer turnover (!) and had a few full field hucks that took everyone by surprise.
