Week 1 Game: Red v White
Outcome: 8-8 tied game with a Lightning cancelation
This game started out a little hot with a threat of rain looming on the horizon. As the game progressed, the wind got a tad bit more threatening and started playing with some throws. Red started on D in the East endzone and proceeded to take a 6-2 lead before halftime. Leading into half, we had some unfortunate turns that allowed White to narrow the gap to 7-5 before ending the half at 8-6. After half, white came out strong and scored twice to tie up the game. Right before the rain and lightning came and canceled the rest of the game, we had endured several turns on a Red offense point. We will see how this universe point turns out next week!
On White, G had great movement all around the field. Janelle came out and had some killer throws while playing walking points due to an injury, including two single throw points for white scores. As White’s lone ladies today, Rosie and Jessica absolutely crushed it, continually zipping around the field and never seeming to get tired.
On Red, special shoutouts to Justin for being calm and collected in the handler space and moving the disc around with confidence. Josh Hayden came out ready to roll and had several great catches. Hannah Friske showed some endurance that I have long since lost and continued playing great defense all game.
Red MVP for Week 1 is one of our rookies: TOSHI KIRTON. Toshi did a great job this week following directions and being exactly where he needed to be. He had several great grabs, found EXCELLENT positioning to get open on offense, stayed tight to his person on defense, and even contemplated a layout catch but got bogged down in the mud. It was super exciting to see a new player come out with such grit on week one of league. Can’t wait to see what he does when he has a pair of cleats on his feet!
