Not Puce v Sky Blue

Firstly, I’d like to start by saying, I DIDN’T EMBARRASS MYSELF OUT THERE. Secondly, HOLY LORD I’M OUT OF SHAPE.

This was a fabulous game and, if I had more time (I’m writing this on my lunch break), I’d overwhelm you with all the feels this gave me, but, suffice it to say, I think I love Ultimate even more than when we stopped playing back in March 2020. This community is amazing, and I’m so psyched to be playing frisbee with all you chuckers again.

Sky Blue is good. Like, real good. If they don’t make mistakes, you’re going to have a hard time beating this team. And that’s what it came down to. I think at our worst, we were down 4-7 because we made some silly throws and they CAPITALIZED. We did have a nice run before half to get it back to 8-7, but then Sky Blue started on O, scored, and we finished the game 9-7 before the torrential downpour sent us all running for our cars.

A few notable moments of good spirit, integrity, and respect. This game’s spirit level was cranked up to 11. At one point I found myself hollering from the sideline about a questionable call, and my fellow captain Evanoooooooo reminded me to cool it and chill. And the call was resolved quickly, amicably, and things proceeded on the field without any issue – apologies if I was a little quick to be like “now hold on just a second”. Additionally, in the midst of play, Michelle (who is a freaking frisbee GODDESS) took a moment to correct the mark of an opposing team member when they set up a backhand force instead of flick. THIS IS WHAT LEAGUE IS ALL ABOUT, PEOPLE!

And lastly, a few effort shout-outs: No one will be surprised to hear Josh Barker was running around like a madbeast on the field (but I’m still gonna say it), but we also have two new gents, Alex and Ashwin, who absolutely CRUSHED it for their first time playing disc (and were drenched in sweat to prove it). And our female matching players essentially stepped up and played savage (although special shout out to Caroline, cause Michelle had to step off for baby duty frequently) because Sky Blue had their full squad of female matching players.

I love this sport, and I love all of you. See you next week!

XOXO,

Roseman
