Citizen’s Field, 2024.
Dearest gentle reader,
The time has come to place our bets for the upcoming summer season. Consider the Pink Slips, a team made of vets, athletes, and a scary handler/cutter duo of Billy and Jared. Far better odds might exist in the Short Stacks team led by Zach and Michelle. They have won every other league since Summer of 2021 and this roster may be the best yet. A shockingly prolific couple.
My bet of our team coming out strong in week 1 came to fruition. We had a completely full roster of all our amazing teammates. Everyone on our team is a seasoned player and it really shows on the field. We may not have built chemistry quite yet but we were still able to score consistently in the end zone and totaled a crazy amount of D’s (likely due to Joe offering $20 to anyone getting more D’s than him). Right now Brian, Nic, and Nes are all tied with Joe for 2 D’s in a race to win the money.
We came out on defense and started right away with a break launching our positive momentum for the night. We later went on to have 4 breaks in a row followed shortly by 5 in a row. Sam was our offensive anchor with 5 assists, he always looks so calm and collected on the field no matter how high the stall count gets. Brad needs to be mentioned as well as he uncharacteristically and awesomely dove to the ground to help our team avoid a turn (GO BRAD!). On the FMP side, we had Debbie killing it on her cuts, always able to get open and make great catches. Debbie and Josh might give all the other power couples on our team a run for their money this season.
JAKPOT may not have won on the scoreboard but there are many plays they made and won on the field. Jemima was killing it with her left AND right-handed backhands in the handler space. Aiden had great catches, and KJ was putting hard pressure in the zone. A special shoutout to Kate for wiping Ellie on the floor with every upline, it didn’t matter how close Ellie was to getting the disc, Kate came down with it every time. It is always intimidating going up against such an experienced and talented duo as Kate and Dustin, but it is always fun to be challenged and learn from the masters as they continue to tear up the field and make great plays.
Final Score: 15-6
In other news, I hear an additional bet has been placed between Bonnie and Ellie. If Bonnie gets bookends what fear is Ellie forced to conquer? Stay tuned.
