Thicker vs Royal
Captain’s Report
Game 4: Surprisingly Thicker vs. Royal Pains
Score 15-12 – Royal Pains
Thicker entered the game with almost their full squad of male matching players (only Dan was absent) but with only one of their female matching players (Amy). Fortunately, Thicker only had to play down one point as Jenny (Jigs) and Clea showed up a few points in.
Despite being down a female matching player, the game started with Surprisingly Thicker taking a quick lead and going up 4-1. But then for some surprising reason, Thicker took their foot off the gas and gave up four unanswered points to the Royal Pains. Finally, both teams traded points resulting in Royal going up 8-7 to take half-time. The second half started out much of the same with points being traded by both teams, and the game remained up for grabs when the score was 12 – 12. Thicker caught the pull and was moving it up field well and were just about ready to go up a point but surprisingly did not capitalize. This was unfortunately the story of the rest of this disappointing loss for Thicker, as Royal took the final 3 points. At this time, Thicker needs to regroup a bit and will take advantage of the bye week to strategize how to better finish games.
A few highlights were Aaron and Trieu’s deep hucks and cross-field hammers to Austin & Jigs, and Anton’s thumber to Aaron for a score. Fletcher had a number of nice flicks in the middle of the field, and Evan played great all day.
For the Royal Pains, the combo of Zach and Bhagya worked very well together, sometimes taking a deep shot but often taking the under, with Clay, Tyler, and all of their female matching players working the disc up in a disciplined manner. Their zone defense was also quite stifling and created a few turnovers. The Royal Pains have the ingredients to win it all and are a team to watch in the playoffs.
