We came into this week hot off a very solid win against Red, and had about twice as many guys this week. Skyblue only had one lady to start while we had 3 (Michelle would show up several points in), so we had to make them play down on our genzone point. Luckily, their ladies trickled in and they ended up with three after a couple of points. Because our ladies did such an amazing job last week, we gave them the option of going 4-3 on genzone and they jumped at the chance.
In typical fashion, we dug ourselves a 4-1 hole after a bunch of silly drops and throwaways. Skyblue on the other hand ran a very efficient offense against our man D, with strike cut after strike cut that we couldn’t do anything about. I called a composure timeout and we instantly transformed, with an easy offensive hold followed by break after break led by Tyler “Mad Cow” Rogers and our zone defense. Clyde subbed in for Tyler on the mark for one point, and immediately got a D followed by the bookend score. We ended up taking half 8-7.
In the second half, Sky was all about the hammer, at one point completing three in a row from one side of the field to the other and then back, making our zone look silly. We did a much better job at taking advantage of the turns that Sky did give us, converting nearly every break chance we got. The game was capped off by Mister Clutch, Thomas “The Tank” Dolce, putting his hand in the air, signaling for the hammer. I under threw it a bit, he stood his ground, absorbed a glancing blow from Fletcher, and caught the game winner, 15-12.
Sky highlights: I hate guarding Aaron, he just never stops running. Most of their scores against our man D, he was the critical piece. Between him and Trieu, I think they threw 20 completed hammers. Jiggins had consistently good play and always gave them an open cut. She also got a huck off right around me to a diving Aaron.
Royal highlights: Our ladies were the star of the show today. Abbie kicked it off on our first O point with a beautiful huck against their zone to Aymo who continued it to a laying out Bhagya for the goal. Michelle had a beautiful mid range huck to me that I was able to outrun Aaron to get to. Moyer was constantly abusing their ladies in the middle of the field and made a great breakside cut for a goal from me. Our secret weapon, Maddie, is quickly becoming not so much of a secret, notching 4 scores this week.
