This was another tough defeat for Orange Crush, losing 8-15 to a determined and persistent red team. Orange Crush was riding a high from last week’s win against Coral, but couldn’t maintain consistency against Red’s oppressive zone. With KJ leading the cup and Luke dominating the deep space, it was difficult to get any deep looks. Additionally, with the speedy likes of Matt and Jess controlling the middle space, it was difficult to find easy continues through the middle. This meant that Orange Crush had to rely on a lot of quick swings and narrow shots to Ricardo & Hannah, with the goal of avoiding getting trapped between the sideline and KJ’s massive wingspan.
This doesn’t mean the game was without positives. Rather, Orange Crush had plenty of its own highlights, beginning with the most important:
- THE David Mills secured two foot blocks (and I believe they were both against the great Jared Futral)
- Brad waddled onto the field and finished the game with two scores (and only two turns)
- Abdiel kept up his scoring streak, and brought in 3 scores for Orange Crush
- The speedy, fearless, consistent duo of Ricardo & Hannah dominated the middle space and really helped Orange Crush find movement in the zone
- Purple had the BEST attendance it has had yet, including every single MMP (except Oye… who has yet to make his summer league appearance)
This may not have been the game we dreamed of, but Orange Crush proved resilient and we are excited for our final game of the regular season.
