BumbleDeez go 2-0 on the double header

Game 4 vs. Huckery Caterpillars:

We came into this game with very high hopes because the BumbleDeez had their 2 secret weapons at the game. The first secret weapon was our first round pick, Dave. The man, the myth, the legend, and most importantly the frisbee rap master who gave us a huge lift on both ends that really helped us this game. And the most important part of our win: Pat brought his cute little furry friend Luna to come watch the game. Whenever Pat got on the line, Luna made sure to cheer as loud as possible, which really sparked our energy the whole game.

We knew we had a tough matchup against the caterpillars. They were the only undefeated team, and we came in to the day hungry to feed them their first loss. We started the game off super strong taking half 6-4. Nothing too fancy, just capitalizing on their mistakes and playing smart offense like us BumbleDeez always do. After half, things got a tad bit spooky for us as they broke us twice, tying the game at 6-6. From there, we went on a run and won the game 10-6, ending the Caterpillars win streak.

In terms of highlights, there are far too many for me to list and I could write a whole thesis about all the great play from both ends. To start, Dave was everywhere. Taking the hardest matchups on D, getting the disc whenever he wanted on O, this man was on a mission. Ben Bobroff played very well in the handler set, and during a marathon point where Billy kept throwing it away, Ben kept getting it up the field with blade flicks against the wind. Mills continued his steady plays, providing a reliable dump when anyone was in trouble. Joe was half man, half amazing this game. His first highlight was a deep throw to Liz, who had a defender draped on her and made a really tough catch in the end zone for the score. He also threw one of the most incredible passes I’ve seen in quite some time. The wind was at peak gustiness and Nathan was trailing me and Joe decided to just sling the frisbee. I don’t even know if he knew where he was aiming; his body just took over and slung that disc. This throw was a dime. 60 yards throwing upwind and a defender right on me. And Joe hits me perfectly in stride. Also big shoutout to Nathan who almost had an incredible layout D and sticking with me the whole time.

But without a doubt, our MVP of this game was Larissa. She was all over the place, getting an assist and scoring 4 out of the 10 times this game. She was absolutely tearing up the field and even managed to bail Joe out on an errant huck. Not only was Larissa cooking, she was playing almost every point as the Caterpillars were playing all 3 of their ladies. Luckily, she held steady and made a huge impact for the BumbleDeez. The 3 ladies on the caterpillars all had a huge game, making it extremely difficult for us on D with their experienced cutting.

All in all, this was probably the most fun game of the season. Winning is obviously fun, but playing a team with so much talent just makes it all the more enjoyable. And not only are the caterpillars one of the best teams, they are also one of the best spirited teams in the league. Just positivity from everyone on the field the whole game! Thanks caterpillars for a great game…I speak for all of us when I say we can’t wait to play again!

Game 5 vs. DragonFlies:

We came into this game feeling good. Part of that was the big win we just had before and part of it was because quite a few of us were drinking beers on the sideline.

This was obviously our first time matching up against the dragonflies, and it is always unfortunate to see a team with low attendance. We knew we had an advantage coming into this game as we had 3 females compared to their 1 female. However, they got off to a really good start. The first point of the game was probably a 10 second point, where the dragonflies simply worked it with ease, absolutely carving us up. We responded with a quick hold and then a break. We ended up finding our rhythm and winning the game 11-6.

This game was a rude awakening for what’s to come in the Spring season. Even though it was only 83° outside, the sun was blazing and things were hot. The dragonflies were the unlucky team that had to play both games on Field 2, and I just wanna shoutout their whole team for dealing so well with the heat, even with such low numbers. On our side, this game was a complete team effort. Larissa continued her dominant play. Luna continued to cheer us on, even if it was from one field over. Joe continued to throw silly throws that got bailed out by his amazing teammates. All was well.

We even had 2 players get their first scores of the season. Gage was able to find the poach and catch a score from Joe in the end zone. Taylor was told if she got a score, Billy would buy her coldstone. On the last point of the game, the BumbleDeez made it a mission to get Taylor involved and she also got her first score of the season. And if anyone is wondering, the new s’mores ice cream at cold stone is quite delicious. Over the span of our 11 points scored this game, 8 bumblers were able to score, as we were really sharing the disc.

It’s hard to name an MVP for this game as it was such a balanced game from all of our players. But Fletcher played particularly well. He came into the game with a chip on his shoulder since Joe was stealing all the stats the first game. But Fletcher came out the second game and tallied an assist, a score, and 2 D’s. When we picked Fletcher, we knew it was a risk because of his knee issues, but Fletcher has really been an amazing steal this draft. His throws are as crisp as ever, and he’s playing great D even with a knee that isn’t perfect.

Before I wrap up this report, there was an unfortunate play that led to KJ getting hurt. This was a very scary moment and our whole team wishes you the speediest of recoveries KJ!

We know the talent the dragonflies have and hopefully next time we match up, they’re at full strength. The BumbleDeez left the field buzzing and are really starting to gain momentum and build camaraderie with each other and this whole day was just a blast!
