Workshop Week 4

At start time of Game 1, we had 5 guys and 3 FMP against the second ranked team in league, on arguably the hottest day of Fall League, on definitively the worst field. Great. Despite that, we were able to shoot out to a 4-1 lead against the Marsh Merpeople. Around this time, we got a few more MMPs and promptly gave up our lead, bringing it to 4-4. Bad hucks was the MO of the day for us, with Adub, Plant, and me (Zach) all turning it over multiple times. After having a big heart-to-heart at halftime, our team settled down, started having fun and were able to pull it out against a very talented crew of sea creatures, final 10-7. Highlight of this game was the mark-block competition between myself and my co-captain. She eeked out one more than me on the final point of the game, seemingly just to rub it in my face. Rude.

Game 1 took a lot out of me personally, and game 2 was against the team I am lovingly renaming from Shaaron to Kryptonite. This team somehow struggles against everyone else, but kicks our butt each time. KJ has probably told them all of my secrets from the numerous times we won league championships together back in the early 1900’s. In similar fashion to the first time we played them, there were few breaks to be had in the first half, with the worst one coming at 5-5 on a missed huck from me to both Adub and Plant. Colverson came out of nowhere and got a finger on it to deflect it. They broke us to take half. From there, we just couldn’t get the D we needed in the second half, basically traded points, and lost 9-11. I had some hope at 9-10 when we had KJ trapped on the sideline near the goal, Michelle had the throwing lane shut down and I had just taken away Jared’s dump cut. KJ released a stall 9.99 loopy backhand that Adub was in great position to D. Chip somehow leaped up, D’d himself, fell to the ground and had the disc land on him for the final point of the game. Ouch. My personal highlight for this game was a hand-block on Chris Bailey on our own goal line. I also got a COMPLETELY CLEAN block on a KJ scoober (that he might have called foul on; that I might not have contested), which counts toward my total for the day to claim the household Handblock Champion crown. Take that Michelle!

Hopefully with next week off, Bhagya will be fully recovered and Ben Freshman will remember that he still likes frisbee. I’m still excited to see our team play a game at full strength and am putting the rest of league on notice for when that day comes.
