Game 1 was against the first overall pick in the Bonnie Toplikar Goaltimate Tournament (held Saturday afternoon). Mr. Fleury looked to have his full stable of Juke athletes present, while we were missing 4 of our top players at start time. To my surprise, we came out hot on defense and handled the gusty environment better than Juke. A nasty handblock by FloridB’s Justin Galin on FloridA’s Nathaniel Wilson set the tone early. Several points in, Kay and Adub showed up (I’m going to break into your houses and set your clocks back 30 minutes), and with their added firepower we were able to pull away to a comfortable half-time lead that we never relinquished. Final 9-7 Workshop. Highlights of the game include Luke being fast, Juke’s FMPs scoring at least half of their goals, and some great D’s on our side by Mike and Thomas.
Game 2 was against what looked to be some very tired Tax Mommys. We got to practice our zone quite a bit this game and Riley is going to be a KJ-esque menace on the mark once he gets his endurance up. A lot of missed deep balls from Max and Raul gave us a decent number of breaks early in the game. On our side, Adub and I connected on a majority of our hucks, including, quite possibly, my first completed huck to Michelle in our entire relationship. I don’t really remember the middle of this game as Max’s mom, Christine, distracted me by dumping Goldfish all over Citizen’s field and blamed it on my sweet, innocent children. They would never! Back to the game…we put this one away pretty quickly with an 11-2 final. Highlights of the game include Raul throwing a monstrous full-field hammer that should have been caught. Justin found another level and absolutely crushed the box score with 2 assists and 3 goals. Plant is still unguardable in the endzone, racking up 10 goals on the weekend. Great performances by all of our ladies, as usual, but shoutout to Cali who notched her first goal of the season!
