Coming into this week, I was hoping for a 1-1 result due to a lot of missing or hurt pieces of our team. Jared, Emory, and KJ were all traveling, Michelle has zero functional ankles and Nick is nursing an upper leg injury. I was very happy to see the previously MIA Falk and Bueno show up a few minutes before game time with the fully loaded Weenies, giving us enough players to survive the day.
We came out a bit slow, going down 1-4 due to some sloppy zone offense. I called a simplified o call, giving me the disc every other pass and we were finally able to punch through their zone. We’d then take advantage of WHJ’s mistakes and bring it back to on serve at 4-4. One of those breaks came off a big huck from Nick to me that I caught over Billy. Billy didn’t appreciate that and flipped a switch that wouldn’t turn off for the rest of the game. He D’d the dump pass to me several times and caught all the garbage balls thrown in his vicinity. There wouldn’t be too many bright spots for us the rest of this game, and we unfortunately lost Nick to a retweeked leg injury just before half. WHJ would go on to take the game 6-11.
Game two was against an even more depleted than us Jeff and Ben led team. With only one lady present to our three, and only 8 people total, they would have to play down every other point. No Jack or Bhagya didn’t help either. Trey showed up for game 2, giving us some extra legs and defensive fire power and after punching in the first point, KJ came lumbering out of the woods, suitcase in hand to provide us some much needed help in the handler space. DSH would run a lot of zone to account for the 6 v 7 and after the horrors of the first game against their zone, we definitely needed the extra big handler. We looked a lot more like ourselves this game, with pretty much everyone who played getting a stat. Josh Barker kept things interesting by getting several baity Ds in the zone, but the low numbers plus our added firepower was too much for DSH and we’d pull away early to a 7-1 lead. A brief comeback due to some silliness from our side would put the final at 11-5.
We’ll likely be without Nick or Michelle until playoffs, but I think all of our planned absences are behind us and we can avenge our two losses in the next few weeks with our nearly full strength team. Being power ranked behind a Devon led team feels weird and I don’t like it. We’ll see you again in a few weeks you big Weenie!
Billy didn’t appreciate that 🤣🤣🤣
