Week 4: Orange vs. Royal & Carolina
The battle of the blues played out for Orange much like every other week this season, 1 win and 1 loss. With our biggest roster to date, we were hopeful for our first two win week, but boy let me tell you, Carolina is the team to beat this year. Royal put up a heck of a fight as well, taking us all the way to universe point. Long story short, Orange fought two all out battles this week.
Orange vs. Royal (7 to 6)
This was one of those games that involved persistence and determination from every player on the field and let me tell you, Royal is persistent. The handling pair of Adub & Jared lends to this being a very huck happy team, but they are lucky to have some fabulous ladies on their squad who are always willing to chase down whatever huck gets thrown their way. I think I heard Adub yell Kaylen’s name at least a dozen times as he sent a huck flying in her direction. However, this did mean that Orange was playing a LOT of defense. This was a turnover heavy game on both sides, but Orange’s deep roster helped us to constantly rotate in fresh legs. Kelsea and Nathaniel were incredible in the handler space, with Nathaniel securing 5 out of 7 assists. We were also very lucky to have Mills back for his second week. He constantly found open space in the endzone and was able to reel in 3 scores. Ben played fabulously as usual, raking in an assist, two scores and a handful of Ds. Overall, the Orange squad played very well in this game, especially on defense.
Orange vs. Carolina (4 to 11)
Well… this game wasn’t all that we had hoped for. But as previously mentioned, Carolina is the team to beat in this league. They play good offense, good defense, have solid throwers and are FAST. Orange has been able to secure a few wins this season by being a little bit faster than the competition, but when put up against Carolina, it looks like we are jogging. Or maybe that’s just me comparing myself to Natalie… I mean, listen, Natalie is good. Like really good. Like I’m really happy that I get to play alongside her in the college season. But also, she should probably be first pick overall in every league. She’s basically unguardable. Thanks for coming to my “Why I Hate Covering Natalie” Ted Talk.
Anyways, this game wasn’t anything too exciting for Orange, but we were able to see our Florida boys shine with Will securing 3 scores and an assist! Nathaniel threw two goals and Kyle was also able to make the stat sheet for something that wasn’t a turnover (it was an assist if you were wondering). Ben played another solid game, securing 1 assist, 1 score and 3 Ds. Honestly, I think we just started to get in our heads after Carolina took half with a little bit more work (and maybe the return of a healthy Thomas Chase?), Orange will be ready to take them in the playoffs.
Our MVP for this week is David Mills. For not having played with us for the last two weeks, Mills really found his spot among the Orange squad. He is excellent at finding open space and was critical for the Orange offense in our game against Royal!
