Week 3: YOLO is over black and stuck on pink

Game 1: Due to work and Thai dinner demands, we came into this game shorthanded with 6 men and 2 women. First, good work to Dawn and Bonnie for playing every point and still keeping up on defense. Second, good work to our guys for playing almost every point as I had not planned to play this week and counted as a half player at best. We came out strong and had a few early breaks getting up 3 to 1 before  unforced errors let black back in the game and then some. Our zone showed promise early but Sam, Nes, Speedy and the rest of the handling/popping core for black started breaking through it easily, especially in transition (one bomb from Sam stands out particularly and is available for revivew thanks to Vander), and we were forced back into person defense. Despite playing savage, this is where I think our team consistently shines and we ended up trading points from behind up until tying 7 – 7 and converting a turn for the 8 to 7 win as hardcap hit. A few highlights include Anton running himself open over and over,  key D’s from Luke, Brad’s diving catch, Bonnie wide open on the break side and in the end zone and Dawn’s “not in my house” D of an attempted post up love connection over her head from Sam to Nes.

Game 2: This was shaping up to be a good game with pink preparing to pull to black up 4 to 3. A short decade ago this game may have been completed. Unfortunately, in their relentless pursuit of godhood, scientists continue to attempt to predict lightning strikes and there may have been a chance someone would be struck if we continued to play frisbee, so we stopped, despite the fact that I have only met one person struck by lightning during a frisbee game and he seems totally fine now. I will save the rest of my recap for whenever we complete the game.
