Week 3 – Cutterflies v BumbleDeez

We were missing several of our impactful players from last week’s windy thriller, but thankfully Team Billy Joe(l) was missing the better of their two captains. As has happened every single game this season (including pre-season), I lost the flip, and then made the questionable choice of starting on offense going upwind. We promptly turned the disc over and got broken. We traded downwind points for a bit and were eventually able to get an upwind break back after getting several chances on “bumbled” hammers thrown by Joe and Fletcher. The BumbleOs had no problem getting the disc through our zone downwind, but typically stalled out around the redzone. Great communication and positioning from our wings, Laura and Abdiel helped force up some frustration throws that I was able to pressure D. We ended up taking half 8-6 and pulled away a bit in the second half to finish the game 15-10.

Our team had two breakout performances this week, one from one of the most experienced guys on our team, Andy, and one from one of the rawest guys on our team, Ben. Andy was breaking marks like crazy with his long step-out lefty backhand and notched 6 assists. Ben had glue on his hands this week and always found himself open in the endzone, scoring 5 times. Honorable mention to Abdiel who has been playing for about a month now and it is amazing to see him progressing after things are starting to click with him. He got a big D in the zone and followed it up with 2 scores late in the game. Oh, and after a relatively slow start to the season, Plant has made his presence known once again, scoring an impressive 5 times.

For Bumble, I was worried about not having an answer for the rising juggernaut named Trevor, but thankfully he tired himself out the day before with a race. He only made me look bad once this game with a layout save on a 50-50 huck thrown to Fletcher covered by me. Liz also played really well, often being the reason they were able to break through our zone.
