It was a beautiful day to play frisbee this past Sunday, and Caroline Blue was up against Black for game 2! The Blacklist came out ready to run, going up 2 breaks before Carolina scored a point. Alek and Sam on Blacklist are a dangerous duo, crushing the handler space and deep space. After that, both teams play really well and alternated points, until Carolina took half 8-7. Our team (Carolina Blue…team name TBD) took the opportunity to go over some frisbee strategy during halftime and explain to some of the newer players where we want players to cut on the field. I’m not sure if it was my truly incredible drawing of vert stack/zone on my very tiny white board that did the trick, but Carolina really started to work together and find our flow in the second half. The team chemistry started flowing and everyone figured out where they were supposed to be on the field. We went up several breaks in the second half and were able to bring home the W for Super Bowl Sunday with a score of 15-11.
Carolina Blue Shoutouts:
– SO MANY Ds: Trey, Jared, and Gonzo are all defensive monsters! Shouts to Jared for laying out and not even being fazed by all the dirt.
– Manny: Body slammed the heck out of Alek. And also super reliable on the field!!
– Joe: Made working through a zone look EZ PZ, with a beautiful assist on one zone O point.
– Lyle: The guy is consistent and reliable. Homeboy had no turns the entire game and is pretty much always open if you need him.
– Scott and Amar: Learned zone that game and didn’t complain one bit when I spit out 1000 different directions at them. Both had really great marks in the cup!!
– Brennan: What a guy! Saved a couple bad throws on my end with some very athletic catches, wrecked the handler space, and helped move the disc down the field.
The Blacklist Shoutouts:
– Bonnie and Caroline: Their team was missing their top lady, Bari, but honestly didn’t sweat it one bit. Both Bonnie and Caroline played really well and were able to get open a lot! It’s really nice to see a team utilize their women. Also, thank you to the Blacklist ladies for being willing to go 5-2 for many of the points even though you only had 2 ladies for this game!
– Max: WHERE DID THOSE THROWS COME FROM? You were crushing those inside looks and made it waaaayy too easy to work through our zone!
– Alek: You had a lot of really great hucks/deep looks to several of your teammates! Always fun to see, and always very annoying to guard (hehe). You also have the cutest golden retriever puppy (shouts to Beta <3)
– Ness (honorable mention): Love that sideline presence and score keeping!
