Pink is absolutely the most veteran heavy team. When we lined up for the first point I knew we were in for a good game. Both teams came out strong and traded points mostly staying on serve for the first half with Royal starting on offense and taking half at 8-6. Royal took the opportunity at half time to talk about some basic ultimate strategy. How to set a mark, staying on the force side on defense and making break side cuts. Things just clicked for Royal second half with each player touching the disc, phenomenal side-line presence and never hesitating to hit the new players. Game ended at 15-9 in favor of Royal.
Overall highly spirited game with both captains stoping the game for some teachable moments. Pink gave hella grace on a violation from a new player allowing Royal to forgo a turnover in favor of teaching new players that if they pick up the disc out of bounds they have to be the one to throw it in. And turning a near dangerous play into a moment to talk about spirit and how to avoid dangerous plays.
Huge shout out to three of Royals new-ish players:
– Michaela came out strong in the first point snagging a lofty throw before going out of bounds, coming down with a quick hammer immediately after, then cutting down field and catching our first score of the game. Safe to say pink was keyed into Michaela’s greatness after that point. Even still she walked away as our leading scorer of the game with 4 points!! So stoked to play with you this season Michaela!
– Joaquin started the day telling us he is brand new having only been playing a few months and never playing competitively. He ended the game with 2 D’s and a score. He has great field awareness and seemed to always find the open spots making him easy to hit.
– Adub may be new but he plays like a veteran 😉. Adub is smart and uses anyone and everyone, making him our lead in assists for week 1. If you’re open, he will hit you…just don’t make him write you a letter to go deep.
Shout out to royal captain Brandon for his first ever hand block! And general amazing captainship, leading those highly teachable moments and half time skills crash course.
Pink shout out to all their vets for playing incredibly smart ulty. Skool moving the disc quickly up the field breaking our zone. Drew as the ever steady reset. Dan doing Dan things. Kellie and Clea always getting open on the under cuts and around throws.
Pink also has some stellar newer players. JT Bringardner killed us several times in the deep space and Caleb Hartsell just might be the steal of the draft.
