Rolling into week 1 the dump beetles came out strong against a very seasoned Dragonflies squad. The near un-guardable Sam Lovelace put his stamp on the first half with three scores, as well as, the always reliable Alek Hartzog guiding the offence and being a pillar of stability on the field. Beetles did a great job of finding the easy throws and working the disc down field. The defense was getting stops, which the beetles cashed in for scores. The beetles capitalized on the defensive momentum and took half 8-4.
Things started to change when Jeff left to pickup his kid (aka our cheering section). As soon as he left the Dragonflies mounted a strong come back by scoring 4 straight to tie it up at 8-8. The rest of the game played out with each team trading points, but we were able to hold serve and receive the pull on universe point. Beetles turned to their defense killing lineup with both Danny G’s on the field at the same time. Danny Gallagher put the game to bed with a sick middle of the field layout to catch a very blady hammer from Moyer. He then got up, dropped off the disc and took off down field to the front corner of the endzone where he caught the game winning score.
Shout out to Abbie, Jake, and Brandon for their strong performances. They brought great energy all game long and made the most of their playing time with all three filling up the stat sheet. This is a fun team with a lot of youth mixed with seasoned vets which always makes for a fun season. ROLL EM UP!
