Ahoy, me hearties! Gather round and listen close, for I’ve got yet another tale to tell of the lightning delayed showdown on the high seas of the Gainesville Ultimate Frisbee League. Aye, the winds were howling and the skies were dark with a storm a’brewing, a’coming, and a’going but that didn’t stop us from embarking on our daring adventure.
It took us a good hour to gather all seven of our brave lads and lasses on the start line, battling against the gusts of wind that threatened to blow us off course. But once we were assembled, there was no turning back. The clash was on! From the very start, it was clear that “The Pirate, Steven” and Poop Deck Billy were destined for greatness. Their teamwork was a sight to behold, with Steven providing assists left and right, and Poop Deck Billy swooping in to score with finesse. One-eyed Jilly and Puffy Pants Vander showed up fashionably late after the first point. With their arrival, we finally had the subs we needed to keep the momentum going.
Larissa from Evil Emperor Zurg’s crew was a force to be reckoned with, always finding herself wide open in the endzone, ready to snatch the Frisbee from the air and planting the flag in the endzone for her team. Amidst the chaos, there was one question that plagued our minds: why do we keep letting Jared huck it? The man knows how to throw, but sometimes it feels like we’re playing right into his hands. But alas, it was not all smooth sailing for the Zurg Ship. Chris Bailey found himself in hot water with multiple out calls on Steven, who was toeing the line, but managed to stay onboard. But after a week hiatus, we had Swashbuckler Sam back on our side, a true workhorse who tirelessly worked the unders and made it look effortless to navigate through Zurg’s zone defense. And let’s not forget about Shoulder Parrot Evan, our trusty reset man and provider of eggs and beer who never failed to keep the disc moving forward, even in the face of adversity.
In the end, it was a victory for the Skying Dutchman, filled with ups and downs, twists, and turns, and ultimately victory in our hands. And as the sun emerged, we were ready to conquer whatever challenges lie ahead in the next leg of our Ultimate Frisbee adventure. Arrr!
With the winds still howling and the waves crashing, but now some blue sky we set sail for yet another thrilling match. But alas, fate had other plans as a fierce storm calmed. Down 5-1 we found ourselves, but with the spirit of true pirates coursing through our veins, we rallied and clawed our way back to 8-7. Yet, despite our best efforts, we could not break through for a universe point. The Vector cannons roared to life, blasting through our defenses and sealing their victory with a final score of 9-7.
As the match progressed, Peg Leg Jess, lacking her usual speed dropped back to handle, signaling trouble on the horizon for our ship. And trouble indeed they found, as ship mate Jon Grez unleashed massive D’s, thwarting any attempt to breach our defenses. Let’s not forget Emory Wellerman, the relentless whirlwind of motion who never once faltered with the disc, weaving through the fray with skill and precision. But the real stars of the day were Vander Puffy Pants and Poop Deck Billy, dominating the endzone with their sheer presence. And let’s not forget our foe with Michael, who carved a path through our zone dominating the upline space for the Vector Ship. Josh Barker and his band of children stood as a constant threat, their cunning maneuvers keeping us on our toes at every turn. And though Shoulder Parrot Evan and Swashbuckler Sam faltered slightly after a stellar first showing during the first battle of the day, they fought valiantly to keep our ship afloat. And I should probably mention that Poop Deck Billy and “The pirate, Steven got more scores and assists, I feel like a squawking parrot repeating myself!
But fear not, me hearties, for this be just one battle in a long and storied season. With grit and determination, we’ll set sail once more, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead. Until next time, fair winds and following seas!
