Navy vs. Pink – Week 3

The setting – a rainy afternoon in Gainesville, Florida.

It had seemed likely that games wouldn’t even happen, with the forecast.

But the weather cooperated, and we were ready to roll. This was to be a battle of titans – Josh Layton versus the future Mrs. Layton.

I’d like to start off by saying “Morrill” is a way cooler name and if Josh really wants to be woke he should consider taking it. Layton? More like lame-ton.

Anyway, focusing on Frisbee, the Pink team had zero guy subs, so they were in for a rough experience on a muggy Wednesday evening.

The game started off with some clean play by Navy (The “Flops” we had recently named ourselves) and we took an early lead, up to 3-1. We held that lead all the way until Pink caught up and took the lead at 7-6.

At this point in the game they had really found their groove with Josh, Logan, and Matt doing an excellent job running up-lines and doing handler work while Keller, Ruben, and the ladies getting open download.

Ruben had a couple standout catches early on and kept working for them all game. Since they were savage, they were clearly getting exhausted but kept the fight going.

Pink slowly pulled ahead as our subs kept us fresh, and we managed to calm down and work the disc.

One highlight play involved Josh Barker handblocking Josh Layton’s hammer cleanly (sick D!), but then Layton caught it on the way down. He then proceeded to yell out “Thanks Josh!”, followed by immediately turfing a backhand throw. It was great.

Pink had one notable point with four layout catches on completely unnecessarily difficult throws, but they were all completed and we scored!

With only two ladies, Ashley and Jenn were working HARD today. Ashley did an awesome job covering defense. Jenn had a couple great Ds and some scores as well.

Navy continued to hold onto a small lead and finished out 15-13.

Mad props to Pink for playing so hard with their guys savage. This was really hard fought and definitely an underdog situation for them.

Until next time!
