As the wise Skool Boy said in the power rankings post, this week was going to be a crap shoot of results with most teams missing big contributors. Unfortunately for us, we were going up against a team that was only missing a guy that was barely even drafted, while we were missing our entire handling core. Looking across the field on the first pull and seeing a line of guys of Ben, Carsten, Matt, Tom, and Vander, we knew our depleted stable of guys was in for a rough day of man defense. We came out in zone and were very quickly and efficiently scored on. It took us a few O points to figure out a way to move the disc but eventually punched one in at 1-3. From there a combination of man and zone defense, as well as several throws to Tom’s ankles, put us up 4-3. Unfortunately that would be the last time we were in control of the game, going down at half 5-8. With a halftime strategy change of using our ladies in the deep space more, I was hopeful we could make a dent in their lead, but we unfortunately just couldn’t connect on several open deep shots to Emily. We started a comeback around 5-13, but the gap was too wide and Frisboos ran away with it, 9-15.
The high schoolers made a big difference for Frisboos in this game, with Lucia being a menace for our ladies to cover and Vander beating us deep several times for scores. On our side, future steal of the draft winner, Nick, was one of the few bright spots on the day. He threw me some absolutely perfect hucks for goals, seemingly the only player present for us capable of hucking on the day. Michael also continues to improve, catching his first goal of the season, and more importantly not throwing any turnovers despite an aggressively hacky mark from Matt Henry. I established myself as league’s premier deep threat, beating Carsten and Ben multiple times, and look forward to our stable of handlers returning next week so I can get out of the backfield /s.
Bold prediction time: the matchups from this week will be the same matchups in the final game of the playoffs. Frisboos v Pop Quiz in the finals, Best Friends v David S Huckins in the 3/4 game, Joe and Billy returning to their rightful place in the chumpionship game against Shea’s Scoobers after Shea somehow finds a way to lose to our team again in quarters, and the late add captains of Weenie Hut and Fantastic Fourhands battling it out in the Toilet Bowl.
Zack attack –
Nice write up. I didn’t realize this game was on the worst week possible. Funny scheduling. Regionals week should of been worked around and just think: you didn’t show them too much.
I do think this game is the final game as well. The 2/3 game in the semis could be interesting. Can one of the other “better” teams beat you..?? I have you as the 2nd seed going into post season.
I think your path to victory against this team is those goal catching ladies you have. They are so good in the air.
Vander is going to be a new goal catching machine this season as well. He will have a good match up most of the time and at least one person going the extra mile to throw him into the box. Very Kevin Switzer like. Plus Vander is good in the air.
For the record I think this team might be able to pull off an undefeated season concluding with a championship on that Sunday afternoon. They are just tooo deep and too tiny. Maybe if Ben gets loose and throws too many away….?? They will make the calls needed and they are going to be pretty darn good against a zone. They are going to be very very difficult out. Kind of of choke if they don’t win.
I have also wrote in and stated that the format for the finals should be a stand alone game with drinks provided. Good ole game – first to 15. no time cap.
stagger the “A” finals so everyone can watch. all awards after the finals or before the finals. NOT at halftime.
This could be one of the better finals we have seen in while and if you can keep some pressure on them – it could get exciting. They are not even going be “behind” much this season. Your game might of been the last time this season. 🙂 They already beat the other two best teams.
I do really like the Sunday format for post season. That is going to be fun.
IF we could just change the start time for regluar season Sunday games till noon and move summer league to Friday nights we would be rockin. 🙂
Hopefully post season Sunday starts 9am or so. It would be nice to watch the finals at a decent hour and get out of there and or just party at the fields. No reason to go anywhere.
The real question is:
who do you root for? the Juggernaut best team or best drafter Zach? 🙂 The game cannot end in a tie. well maybe it could. Call the game due to darkness at 12 to 12. Rain out?
Your 9 goals is a good sign Zach but I am sure they will tell me they let off the gas and threw passes “off” handed and upside down.
