Sorry for the lack of updates on everyone’s favorite underdog team, to make up for it we’re giving you a 4 for 1 special in this captain’s report.
Game 1 (vs Frisboos): A 3-11 score is all the evidence you need for why the Frisboos are unanimously considered the best team in the league. Capable throwers in their oldheads, fast legs and lots of stamina from their highschoolers, and a level of cohesion we’ve been looking to reach all season helped the Frisboos find lots of Ds to create breaks. Big props to Reagan and Lucia for finding the holes in our zone and Matt and Ben for putting it to them. Even in a tough loss like this there’s still some recognition to be given out, with Summer and Caroline both getting solid Ds on a grindy point, as well as Kate coming in and immediately helping us rally with a score.
Game 2 (vs Pop Quiz): This game was the turning of a new leaf for the Fourhands. Going into half against arguably the second best team in the league down 1 was a seriously good feeling. Unfortunately, lingering sickness caught up with Dustin, Kate, and Tommy, who were all responsible for our solid first half performance. Final score ended up being 6-11, a disappointing 1-5 half. However, there were some SERIOUS highlight moments. Play of the game has to go to Poki for skying two defenders and a teammate. Said teammate also got a score of his own, so nice job to Adam. Looking at only the first half, you could make an argument for this being the best performance we’d seen out of the Fourhands. Unfortunately, Zach and Jared’s deep hucks were just too dominant in the second half, even with us flat marking them.
Game 3 (vs Scoober Snacks): Coming into this game, we may have been a bit TOO confident. This was the only team we had been able to field more than 10 players for and the excitement was brewing. We even took the half, for maybe the first time ever. Jake and Tommy were looking like dominant defenders. Dustin was slinging assists (5 on the game) to Alek and me, everything was clicking. And then Mystery Inc. found their second gear. Austin began catching throws that should’ve been turns. Max started hitting crazy hucks and Delena was simply uncoverable for the reset dumps. Scoober Snacks sneak in a win, 11-8.
Game 4 (vs Horror Flicks): Our final chance to get a win in the first half of the season. And boy did we show up. Sure, they may have been missing Billy and Lucas. But with playmakers like Joe, Ellie, and Plant we were looking at this game with some serious trepidation. And their quick score on the first point didn’t calm our nerves. But the 7-1 break train we put on sure did. Our suffocating zone defense shut down Horror Flicks. With Dustin and Tommy taking turns commanding the backfield from the deep, Abdiel, Poki, and myself looking down cutters, there was no room for anyone to take significant shots. However, even if they had been open, the commanding wingspans of Alek and Kate would have never allowed anything to go off anyways. This was the first game I’d seen us put on a true defensive performance and the score reflected it. Also, everyone in attendance notched either a score or an assist, with Tommy taking MVP after finding 4 assists and a score. 11-6 final score, with late points from Ellie, Joe, Plant, and Howard, who never stopped grinding despite the resistance they faced. Shoutout to Joe for coming back to the field after taking a huck to the face. Although this win was a huge confidence booster for the Fourhands, I suspect that the next time we face the Horror Flicks they’ll be hungry for revenge.
