At start time, I really liked our chances against a short-handed Shea / Aaron team. We had nearly our full squad and they threw a line at us on the first point that was ready to compete in the Masters division next season. Then they broke us. From there on, we had a lot of trouble stopping their handling core of Jared, Bailey, KJ and a two-ankled Colverson (don’t let him tell you he’s still injured) from doing whatever they wanted. For most of the game, break chances were at a premium with both teams playing pretty stingy offense. We had a couple of chances, but squandered them with some bad throwaways. Adub showed up shortly before hardcap with us needing two breaks to win (down 9-8). Adub was not the defensive answer we needed and they scored. Despite cap probably already being on, we played the next point and Adub got on the stat sheet with a full field backhand to Bhagya over KJ in the endzone. All around a very good performance from Team Sharon, and a shoutout to Jess who played every point and kept getting high stall count under catches against us. For team Zachelle, Mills and Mike did a great job as the reset handlers, allowing us to have several very smooth zone O points. Both of our FloridB teamers, Justin and Riley, got on the stat sheet with some goals and D’s.
Game 2 against an even more short-handed Jeff / Jenny team was a big turnaround game for us. Even with the pickup of some guy named Sam, who didn’t even have cleats, the lack of subs seemed to be too much for the Fighting Mannys to overcome. We came out strong on both the O and D side of things, with very few turnovers throughout the entire game. We took half 6-2 and pretty much skipped half-time to get out of the rain. The second half was more of the same, with Team Bennifer losing another player and having to play with 6. We ended the game pretty quickly (11-3) and got everyone out of the rain. For Team Jeff, Jeff had a perfectly catchable flick huck that the undraftable Sam wasn’t able to come up with. For Team Zachelle, Adub somehow got 6 assists without hucking a single time, I still haven’t quite figured that one out. We were able to get Kay more involved this game and she found the endzone twice.
Looking forward to next week and hopefully not having to play in sloppy, wet conditions!
