Teal vs. Purple: A game of callahans!

We came into this week with high energy and spirits from a big win the week before. Our attendance has always been good, but we continue to have outstanding attendance with all but 2 players showing up for this week against purple. We came in knowing neither player from the Kadustin duo would be present, which would help us get a win.

We won yet another flip and decided to take D with the wind on our side. Right out the gates, Joe throws an absolute cannon of a pull and this thing lands promptly in the back corner of the end zone. It had great hang time, so teal was able to get down on the pull and a bad pass flies over the offender right into a waiting Sam for a callahan on the first point. I don’t know if Joe’s been hitting the gym or if he’s just playing frisbee with untethered rage, but these pulls have been juicy all season with or against the wind. First half, we played to our strengths and took half 8-3. It was clear purple was missing another handler in Kadustin. Second half, a long point ensues with quite a few turns. This leads to teal picking it up on our end zone and then we throw a callahan! (sorry I don’t know the name of the player on purple who got the callahan, but it was great D and a callahan is always is sick). We ended up taking the game 15-4, after continuing to capitalize on mistakes and play smart, efficient offense.

Sometimes, when you have great attendance in league, it can hurt a team, as having multiple lines often leads to some players never playing together and making it hard to develop chemistry with one another. But I think this is the opposite for tealin and dealin. We have already bonded so much as a team after just 3 weeks playing together, and it seems like some of the people I’ve just met have been my friends for years. We’re really coming together and this week’s stat sheet shows that. Once again, we had 11 players catching scores, 9 players throwing assists, and 8 players getting D’s. We have incredibly balanced scoring and every player on the field is a threat to get a score or throw an assist. Everyone shined bright this week, but the Sam/Nes duo was particularly hot with 4 assists, 4 scores, and 5 D’s between the 2 of them. Gordon continued to show his willingness to learn, being more comfortable cutting, catching a score and getting a D this week. Liz also filled up the stat sheet with a score, an assist, and a D and she was involved in our PLAY OF THE GAME. Picture this: Caio cutting deep on the flick side for Liz, Liz says “this mark can’t stop me,” proceeds to break the mark for a backhand huck, and Caio channeling is inner Sonic the Hedgehog to track this disc down. I think Caio may have broken the sound barrier from running so fast. It was truly a thing of beauty and I don’t think anyone saw it coming. Hard to name an MVP this week with so many contributions, but I’d have to give it  to Josh. He had 2 assists, a score, and a D. His highlights include a super saucy inside throw for a score to Billy and a wild chest-high layout D. I didn’t know anything about Josh before this league (Great scouting from Joe), but he is already making a super solid case for steal of the draft. He plays with unmatched intensity and has great IQ and field awareness (and saucy layouts, which is always a plus).

So yep, that’s about all I got for today. It is a shame this season only has single headers, because I know we would love to get a rematch with purple when they’re at full strength. But hey, Devon is on track to not get pied this season, so that is a win bigger than the scoreboard.
