R.E.D. had another fun and spirited week matching against a green team who was sadly missing Chris Bailey and at least a few other friends I haven’t met yet. Some immediate shout-outs to a few of our own who couldn’t play: Vander, Nathan, and Weston, hope you all get better/heal up soon! Also a big-time thanks to Weston for keeping stats one-handed, you the real MVP.
Gangreen (Gang Green? Gain Green?) had some incredibly solid plays, including one of the best aerial scores of the summer so far by Kaylen and a sick nasty huck score from Ben Stone (I was so mesmerized by the throw I don’t remember who caught it). Logan Diehl and Nathan did their usual tall-boi stuffs on both ends of the disc, and Tommy and I had a lot of fun matchups throughout the game; I freaking love that man.
R.E.D. had a lot of sad moments early on with many clogged lanes (we just love to be close to each other) and dropped discs (we just love to play defense); but the team gets a lot of shout-outs for keeping our composure and playing hard on both ends for the last three quarters. My personal favorite moment, and maybe the most incredible moment of the season, was when Emily was so fast that she was able to run partway to the wrong endzone after getting a D and then still get back in time on O. Jenna shredded folks for a couple of scores, and Grez had a sick last-second D that looked like a same-time catch but was conceded by Green (good spirit, y’all!). Nan and Schimmel apparently have some kind of chemistry going on with handler movement and a connection for a score (this is your chance man, ask her for her number!). Jared and Jess also have some of chemistry that mandates at least one full-field hammer score per game (maybe that’s one of their mutually-agreed dating expectations?). Reagan and Andrew Reynolds kept us moving consistently in the middle, and Pohl pulled in a couple huuuuge Jared hammers to get buckets (I don’t think he and Jared are dating, but watch out Jess). Jess and Jill continue to be a consistent problem for opposing teams, and both had baller assists and scores. KJ was trying to pad his stats by skying me for a D, but shared the wealth by throwing a disc for me to chase down later. Luke had at least 17 goals and 25 D’s, but since some moron left the stats sheet at home we lost count after a while.
Finally, Schimmel and I probably wouldn’t have drafted Jared at all if we knew he would only be able to throw full-field dime hammers into the wind 9+ times a game, only get 7 assists (most upside-down) and only get 4+ D’s (also most upside down). I guess having Jess on the team makes him worth it.
