After a month long hiatus from frisbee, I was very excited to play this game. Our opponent was Texas, who although had not won a game, would not be an easy matchup. I know they’ve fought hard in some very close games and would be hungry for a win this season. We started the game off on D and would get a break right away highlighted by yours truly. I would end up throwing a very ugly and wobbly hammer for our first break. Our zone was doing well making them throw a lot of throws, and we would continue our break train to be up 3-0. Texas eventually figured it out, going mostly on serve for the rest of half, with us taking half 8-5 (I think?) During the 2nd half, we were feeling confident in winning, so we tried a few different defensive strategies. Texas continued to stay mostly on serve with a break or 2, but we would hold them off winning 15-12 (again, I think?)
Some sick plays from each side. Fletcher did a great job commanding the offense and patiently working through our zone. Summer did a great job popping in the middle of the stack, getting the disc at will. On our end, Jared had a wild play where he got handblocked and then followed it up with a layout catch to save the play. I remember Trevor having a layout handblock to get a D as well. We had a rare sighting, which was a full game Schimmel, who contributed 2 assists (would’ve been 3 if I knew how to jump higher). Jess and Jo were our only 2 ladies and played every point, which is impressive on its own in the heat. They also contributed big with a combined 4 scores. Mills had 2 big D’s on the day and still is the coolest lefty handler in Gainesville.
We’ve definitely had our highs and low as a team, so I’m really hoping we can pull it altogether in the playoffs. We have a ton of talent on this team and can definitely upset any of the teams in the league if we play our cards right (see what I did there). No matter what happens, at least we got the best looking jerseys in the league!
