Orange vs. Yellow & Black

Orange v. Yellow (4 to 6)

Good things don’t always have to last a long time… Our 35-minute game against Yellow proved just that. In this short span of time, we were able to watch one of the best match-ups of this league: the great Ben Hayden against a guy who we hear might play professional ultimate. We don’t remember his name, but his hair cut was nice.

This game also gave us a chance to let our very young squad show off their stuff. The few of us who are old enough to drink primarily hung out behind the disc, throwing lots of unders to our speedy youngsters and occasionally putting up hucks headed towards the end zone. Will impressed us with his ability to get open in the endzone (securing two of our four scores) and Amanda & Emily proved that they were unafraid of making sick plays in the air, often coming down with tipped and mis-thrown discs.

Orange was making its way back in the second half of this very short game, but Yellow took half with two minutes until hard cap, resulting in some early high fives and preparation for our second game of the day.

Orange v. Black (11 to 6)

The score on this game may not look close, but it definitely did not feel that way on the field. Especially as a female-matching player. I mean, seriously, the ladies on Lights Out are incredible! Pretty sure their average height is like 5’10” (which really doesn’t bode well for me) and they are a very competent bunch, often scoring with only their ladies ever touching the disc. Our ladies were able to match up well, but it was our boys who stole the show in this game.

Nathaniel & Kyle handled like pros, with Nathaniel securing six assists in this game alone. Thomas made brilliant cuts and was unmatched in the end zone. His speed and height are truly a force to be reckoned with. Will and Joel were also able to reel in some scores to round out our stats sheet. We also think we saw a glimpse of Will skying a captain with the initials SJL, but it could have been a dusty hallucination…

Onto some fun stats for the week:

Week 2 Age Mean: 22ish

Week 2 Age Median: 22

Week 2 Age Mode: 22

We also want to give a huge shout-out to our Week 2 MVP, Milani. A rolled ankle in Week 1 limited her abilities on the field, but she rocked it out as our coach and stats-taker! Her constant encouragement (and contagious smile) really motivated the entire squad.

Signing off,

Orange’s Shortest Captain
