Marsh Mermaids Captain’s Report

Game1: Marsh Mermaids v Tax

Score: 11-5 Mermaids

The Mermaids’ first game against Tax was a rollercoaster of emotions: On the upside, we were able to field a full line of Mer-peeps. On the downside, we were playing with no subs. On the upside, when the game started, Tax only had three members on the field. On the downside, they scored on us within 60 seconds of starting… and then proceeded to doubled their field presence, making it a 6 v 7 game. Fortunately, the Mermaids were able to combine the steady handler presence of Cooper, Asa, and Tom, the cutting of Billy, Nathan, and Devon, and the absolute scoring machine of Judah Lebofsky and pull out an 11-5 win.  Through it all though, Tax never wavered, and they never gave up, coolly making good swings, cuts, and catches despite being a person down. Additionally, they brought Halloween spirit in spades, with both an ace pilot and a fuzzy narwhal on their roster (shoutout to Tommy and Max). One more honorable mention from that game: the appearance of a Billy Field Flick PullTM part way into the game. This event has only been theorized about by physicists and historians, endlessly arguing in circles if its occurrence is even mathematically possible and whether or not there is any proof of its occurrence in written or oral human history. I’m proud to say that Tax and the Marsh Mermaids bore witness to the first ever BFFP, and it was glorious. That is all.

Game 2: Marsh Mermaids v House of Dragonflies (HoD)

Unfortunately, HoD picked up too many injuries during their first game to field a line and had to forfeit this one. This was super sad, as we had been looking forward to a rematch after they kicked our tails in our first meeting. But in the spirit of good fun, we sent over a player and played a quick game of 5v5 to 7. Notable moments: Steven from HoD scoring twice with a hurt ankle, Nathan skying Billy (the first draft pick for the other team), and Jeff Rose, the Commish himself, throwing some monster upside-down throws. All in all, good fun, good spirits, and the Mermaids look forward to meeting HoD again with their whole clan behind them!
