These two teams were very evenly matched and both teams seemed to have a great time. Both teams were short a couple of ladies so when Kelly was in the gen-zone we went 6/1 mostly which is unfortunate since our 4 ladies are one of our teams biggest strengths.
Jeff and I flipped and Kelly selected to start on defense since we suck at playing defense. We decided to start by running a trap zone which worked pretty well for us throughout the game. We got a turn on the first point, however we then quickly turned it back over and let Puce/Orange score.
We then scored quickly on a well put together drive with Ben, Zak, and Matya working the disc well and taking advantage of excellent cuts from Brandon and Nathaniel. After this we swapped points back and forth with Puce/Orange for a bit, then we managed to get our defense really in the swing of things. We were able to force lots of iffy throws and generate a couple of turns to go up 6-4. At this point we were starting to get tired and called a timeout to get some water. Orange/Puce used this timeout to plan how to break our zone down which they then did exceedingly well for the rest of the half. Orange/Puce took half with our score at 7-8.
at half we still felt pretty good, our offense had been clicking and we felt we could mix it up and throw person and zone coverage at Orange/Puce but we were never able to retake the lead.
Drops and minor mistakes would become the story of the game. We were playing well and had good chemistry but would always have drops or misreads when it mattered most. Orange was very quick to capitalize on any turns we had with plentiful deep hucks from Jeff to Manny and Josh Barker.
Jeff sealed the game and his nomination as Orange/Puce MVP on a beautiful flick huck that arced into Josh Barker’s hands on a full field sprint.
