Batreport #1: Vs Tortoise Terrors/Vs Monstrous Manatee

Loading Contingency Report File 1: Tortoise Terrors

The Turtles picked 1st overall and with a duo like the Travaliginis, no team can safely guarantee a win. A strong handling core means their gameplan is to go slow and steady, outliving and outlasting any foes. Good thing my team is trained to strike fast and hard.

Objectives

  • Find the Kadustin Kryptonite (metaphorically or a literal rock, whatever works)
  • Capitalize on turnovers. Failure to convert on defensive points is a death sentence, there will be no second chances against their handling core

Initial Engagement Findings

  • As expected, an opening assist from Dustin drew first blood
  • A quick counter blow from the Batfam allows us to take 5 straight, with Andrew soaring through the skies to grab 4 scores
  • Although the Tortoises enter the half at 2-6, they stay on serve for a final of 4-9. Their resolve is concerning, as a lesser team would’ve likely buckled under such a crushing deficit. Rousing halftime speeches from captains Lucas and Jemima could cause problems in future rematches if we don’t put them in such a difficult spot going into half
  • My team was well disciplined on turnovers (6 Ds), setting stacks and relying on our handling core of Billy, Shea, and Andrea to find the cracks in their shell

End Report

Loading Contingency Report File 2: Monstrous Manatees

Although this team lacks an Avengers-level threat (Kadustin/Zachelle/Joellie/Ricardo), their unassuming nature makes them almost equally concerning. Finding their primary weapons and neutralizing them is priority number 1.

Objectives

  • Abuse altitude and height. Bats excel in aerial matchups
  • Utilize momentum. Once we get hot, we stay hot

Initial Engagement Findings

  • Despite their absences, the Manatees didn’t just roll over; Sam’s layouts and effort plays nearly drove this team to a comeback win
  • MAXimum “Effort” Sultz also had an impressive bid that puts him on a potential threat watch list
  • Abbie was a constant threat in the cutting space, forcing our defense to play much tighter as the matchup went on
  • The Billy to Nic connection is unstoppable in the right conditions; one cut and one throw is all it takes to end a point
  • Family trio of Lydia, Ezra, and William also impressed this game, including a game ending catch from William (his first ever score in organized Ultimate!)
  • The Manatees have playoff upset potential. With a full roster, I could see them catching any team in the league sleeping

Although we claim a 2-0 start to this season, we’ll need to stay on our toes, with next week’s matchups looking to push us to our limits. Good thing I prepare for every outcome. BATman out
