Frisboos had an unfortunately very dichotomous day on Sunday, with the first game against Weenie Huck Jr. (best team name, btw) ending prematurely after a bunch of reasons, and the second game against David S. Huckins (named after some video Jeff probably totally made up or something; “Tom Hanks” doesn’t even sound like a real person) going the distance to universe after a super fun and competitive matchup. Frisboos was missing a lot of our spookiest friends such as Ben, Carsten, Alex, and Lucia, but some tall bloke named Luke showed up claiming he was on the roster; he seemed creepy enough, so we let him play.
Game 1 had its share of highlights after its untimely start and before its untimely end; Luke quickly racked up several assists and tall boi highlights, Jacob set the tone for us defensively with some incredibly tight D on several of their inhumanely fast cutters, and Reagan consistently kept us moving with her usual terrifying cuts in the middle (I broke my ankles just watching her). For Weenie Huck Jr, Billy had one of the most incredible layout catches I’ve seen in a long time for a second-chance score (and I feel like no one really reacted?! I guess cool stuff is expected when you’re a baller or a Billy; if someone like me did that, people would lose their minds, rip their shirts, eat grass, name all their kids Matt, etc etc). It was a super blustery day, which I think helped level the game a bit for us against their solid and truly scary core of Billy, Rosie, Naomi, Jaylynne, Jenna, Devon, Brandon, School, and Jeff (plus other friends I haven’t met yet).
The second game was frighteningly exciting from beginning to end, with our teams generally trading scores until Huckins jump-scared us and took half 6-4. After a spooky halftime cheer scared the HYPE back into us, we utilized some incredibly boring but super patient offense against their zone to tie it at 6; big-time shoutout to Jackie (playing her second week EVER of league) who scored on the hold and brought down a HUGE downfield catch in the break point! Huckins gave us another real fright by scoring to make it 7-6 just before hard cap, but more patient offense allowed us to score and then secure the break to win on universe. Immediate shout-outs to Huckins’ squad for an amazingly fun and spirited game all around (even though I feel like Bhagya’s height itself is an ongoing foul against humanity). Also gotta say, SO freaking awesome to be playing with both Josh and Jenny again; y’all are both killing it. Many kudos to be given on our team for this one: Drea, TK, Lyle, and Tom all were absolutely phenomenal compatriots in the handler space, with Drea especially bailing us out many times off the sideline and Tom/Lyle tossing many a huck in Luke or Vander’s general direction for BOOckets and fun. Reagan and Jacob together continued playing fierce D and landed us breaks through the cup, and Luke (among other sick plays) had two incredibly sick one-hand catches with defenders all over him on the universe point. Super proud of our team for showing so much grit in this one and not getting rattled when we were down. When the game ended, Luke mysteriously vanished and none of us ever saw him again. SpOOky.
Looking forward to having the BOOs back in town for more fun, friendship, frisbee, flings, flicks, fellowship, friendly fouls, and frights next week!
