Who Won the Draft/Week 1 Predictions.

Well hello there neighbor. It’s been a while since I’ve written but with a new Fall league season on the horizon I figured it was time dust off the old pen and paper to give the people something to read and get them pumped for the first day of league. So please, grab your drink, sit back, and enjoy.

(This was written before even arriving at the fields Sunday so all predictions are based solely on the draft!)

Before we get started let’s do a quick rundown of the winners and the losers of the draft:

5-6. Kelly Green/Red

  1. Sky Blue
  2. Puce
  3. Navy
  4. Mint Green

Week 1 Predictions:

Puce vs Sky Blue-

This game has the biggest potential to be the most exciting game of the weekend, on par with the Georgia-Clemson game from the start of the college football season. On Puce you have years of experience in the Floyds, Rose, Akin, etc. with the addition of hot blooded young boy Josh Barker whereas Sky Blue has their top 3 dictated by younger talent in Fartzog, Colverson, and O’Neill. Ultimately, Mr. Rodgers thinks this game is going to come down to the battle of the ladies and on that battlefield Puce is taking the W in spades. Jenny, Caroline, Michelle, and Ashley have significant experience over Sky Blue’s women even with the up-and-coming Anabel leading the charge. Overall, look for a hard-fought game with hopefully not too many calls from all the grumpy old men *cough* Floyd, KJ, Skool *cough*.

******If there is ever a windy day that calls for zone Sky Blue should win EVERY. SINGLE. GAME.

Mint vs Red-

This game has the potential to be like the Week 1 game of FSU vs Notre Dame: a team beating another team they shouldn’t have had a big problem with. Normally I would say this game wouldn’t be very exciting, but from what I’ve heard Mint is gonna be missing come key players early in the season (Natalie & Janelle). Assuming Red has good attendance this could turn out to be a decent game; at a minimum it should be a good game for the newer players on both teams to get oriented with the game and to know their teams better. Mint, enjoy having Billy and Nat (the best man and woman in league) on your team. Red, you have two veteran captains in Fresca and Joe to help teach you the game so do what you can to learn from them early so you can succeed later. Regardless, with all the factors in place, this game should be fun for everyone and will hopefully start the season off with a bang.

P.S. Fresca and Joe, Drew is great but why not Steven?! You know the Steven to Munir connection is dynamite but now you have no one to throw to him! Prep those hucks Drew!

Kelly vs Navy-

Assuming attendance is good for both squads, this game is shaping up to be similar to the Alabama-Miami game; you’re excited for it at first but then it turns out to be a rough game for Miami. Kelly, I have bad news: you’re Miami. You have Goetz to guard Sam, or Steven, or maybe Ben, but who has the ones he doesn’t cover? Perhaps Brandon…no. Or maybe Chapin….wait. Zak??? Crap. Looks like there aren’t too many defensive players on Kelly. But don’t give up hope! The good news is that Kelly has a very talented set of women to help take over the game! Will it be enough to offset the lack of skill in the men? Personally, I don’t think so, but crazier things have happened in league before (Hell, White somehow won last league so anything is possible at this point given the right circumstances and contesting OB calls when you’re definitely out in the Semis). All that being said, I see this game being the most lopsided of the weekend with Kelly just having no answer for the men of Navy. The top 3 are solid and then with a support crew of Max “I’m the best player to ever play in Gainesville” Overdevest, Bhagya “I’ve already got bigger balls than my brother” Patel, and Matt “I’m so nice I’m a vertically challenged Adam Carr” Henry, they can’t lose. But hey, as I said, it’s league so anything is possible.

TLDR:

Puce over Sky Blue

Mint over Red

Navy over Kelly

Well neighbors, that’s all for this installment from your friend Mr. Rodgers. Good luck tomorrow to everyone! Go out, have fun, maybe toss back a few brewskis, and sling some plastic! Can’t wait to see you all out there!
