Dearest Gentle Reader,
Humankind has accomplished extraordinary feats in its attempt to compete with nature. Built ships to travel the globe, castles nearly to the clouds, and now, great balloons to traverse the skies. But no matter how many accomplishments we have displayed, it seems we can’t solve the issue of summer thunderstorms ruining our frisbee fun. Thankfully this week cooler heads prevailed and we simply pushed the start time back 30 minutes. The Lucky Rollers rolled in quite deep and had all of its members on the field waiting to play around 6:15. Oh Craps rolled in quite late and we had just enough to start the game at 6:30. Our team a little frantic in the pregame huddle as our two brightest teammates Sam and Nes had yet to arrive. How dare they arrive exactly 2 minutes before kick off and scare us all. Alas, the game began and each team took its turn scoring until we took half 8-6. The Lucky Rollers were not giving an inch. They found themselves on a roll and took the lead 11-10. Placing Oh Craps in a position I don’t think we have faced this season, we were losing for the first time. Silly mistakes, blown coverages and just outright embarrassing defense by yours truly. We gathered ourselves and went on a lucky roll to win the game 15-11.
I went into this game wanting to limit Drew’s abilities after seeing him atop the leaderboards, this did not work. He finished with 7 assists and 2 scores and was driving the bus for the Rollers. Cooper kept things flowing anytime Drew wasn’t shooting it deep. Naomi found herself in the end zone a few times despite playing on a badly injured knee. Tyler was roasting and coasting to 3 scores and he’s somebody I would not want to get in front of when he gets rolling. Riley had a NFL worthy catch where he snagged it right before it went out the back of the endzone with two feet and 10 toes down but apparently not in the end zone. If I’m the Lucky Rollers I find a way to shoot it deep to Liz and Jay more often and take advantage of the height match ups.
Oh Craps had some ups and downs. Brian started the game strong early with 2 scores and a D and then sadly left the game with a hamstring injury. AJ caught the contagious injury bug also and had to end his night early. While losing Nic, Brian and AJ to hamstring injuries, we were able to welcome back Big Ben himself. He had enough of the sideline walks and laced those bad boys up and made his season debut. I underestimated the sheer size and issues a man Ben’s size can cause in the cup we tossed at the Rollers. When I marked, they got a break side through off. When Ben marked, we got turns and our zone was effective. Josh and Debbie continue to be one of my favorite draft picks of all time. They both play with passion and leave it all on the field and make plays any time the disc is near them, Debbie had 2 scores and Josh had 2 assists. Although Sam and Nes didn’t fill the stat sheet it doesn’t need to be said the impact they have in all our games. Sam is leading our team in D’s and if I can’t catch him by the end of the season I’ll own him $20 bucks. Brad continues his great play, I tried to make him lay out but unfortunately it ended in more of a slide. He scored 4 of our last 5 points or so. My beautiful co captain Ellie finished with 4 scores and 1 assists and would have had about 7 scores had someone not lathered the disc in butter and rain. I finished with 1 dropped pull and a non D that I either gave up on or forgot how to jump. I think that about sums it up, I’m eagerly awaiting our game against Texas today and I hope the evening storms allow the pulling competition to happen. Bring ya money and prepare to lose!
