The Pooh Bears came into this game short handed – with Natalie and Cooper missing this week and Shea and Trevor both being tipsy and/or sick. The Giant Green Skying Machine looked to have all it’s pieces – or at least the two scary ones (Nathan “I am taller than you” Schaller and THE Logan). The Pooh Bears usually have an advantage on the ladies front but Green came to play with Reagan and Ani.
This game started on serve 1-1 and quickly turned to poo for the Pooh Bears and we would stall out on offense due to some miscues and were ineffective on defense and unable to get any momentum. Green would take half with a daunting 8-3 lead. The highlights of our first half were Pat and Jia working the disc incredibly well and Max putting together a performance deserving of a first round pick in future drafts. At half time I went around and had everyone state one thing they wanted to improve in the second half and everyone had great points to work on.
The second half started poorly for Brown with a few turns allowing the Mean Green Team to take a 10-3 lead. And then Brown started to click. Pat and Max were everywhere causing problems for Green on both sides of the disc. I managed to get a few D’s while alternating between ‘5’ and ‘wing’. Our zone really slowed down Green on offense and the Pooh Bears were very effective working the disc between Max, Jia, Pat, and Shea – with down field contributions from Lucas, Justin, Katherine, and Zhenqi. Paul and Jordan were constantly moving in the deep space and forcing Logan to stay deep and allowed the rest of the team to work the disc effectively. We would surge to a comeback and brought the game to 9 – 11. At this point Nathan called a timeout and they were able to fix some issues in their zone and generate a few D’s but for the most part we stayed on serve and the game would end with a beautiful flick huck from Logan to Ani with a final score of 15 – 11.
I was super proud of Brown for fighting back and giving green a scare, especially missing players we have come to rely on every week (plz comeback Nat and Coop). Huge shoutout to Pat and Jia for stepping up and playing super well all game and giving us hope. Brown should be at full strength for playoffs and everyone better watchout cause you can’t keep Brown down.
