Lime Shock v Red

Week 1 Winter 2022 League Report

—

Shockingly Old vs Red Dead Redemption

Final Score: Lime 15 – 9 Red

Winter league is always wacky. Football season is over. NFL Playoffs are done. Baseball (is that even a sport) might start up soon. The college ultimate players forsake us for “the series”.

Regardless, chump play in league continues.

The draft has been closed as of late, and the powers that be have decided to hide the true nature of the draft by concealing the positions players are drafted at and allowing all kinds of preposterous pairings of “parents with young children”. We were also slated as the ‘losers’ of the draft – yet are 6 -0 now! (heck yea we are counting preseason!).

All in all, we were excited to start out the season and get a full game in.

Shockingly Old may have an average age nearing AARP level, but we are not short in depth of quality, competent players who know what to do (except that Nick McGrane guy. I mean Sara is a steal – but was Nick, or pick, really worth it?? Come on Tom!). The slight wind definitely was enough of a factor to favor Limes style of play and let the old guys slow things down in a zone defense.

Lime broke out quickly and went up a few breaks – about 4-2 I think. Co-captain Brandon showed up late even though he said he probably wouldn’t make it only to watch a nearly 10 minute long point. Following that he stepped on the field and Red started to break back and put the game back on serve. Speedy proved to be a formidable defender and stopped a few deep looks giving Red the opportunities to strike and score.

Half time ended up being something like 8-6 in Lime’s favor, who would also come out of half time on offense.

The zone defense of Lime ended up being too much for Red to handle. Red was about 50-50 in shredding up the middle of our zone, but more often than not just couldn’t complete much deep down the field. A combination of our ladies (Bonnie, Sara, and Alethia) and School put some heavy pressure on the handlers, and some tall bodies in Tom, Tommy, Nick, and Mills made for a strong secondary wall.

Lime ran away with the game in the second half as the wind picked up more, and had a solid first outing with a 15-9 win. 6-0!!

Shout out to Red for some great players!

Lime deserves some love too:
