We went into Week 2 with an absolute banger of a match against Short Stack. With an almost full roster (14 peeps but no sidekick Kyle??), we started at 6:20pm. Spirits and hype were high for the JAK Potters as the sun was just setting and we had a sneaky lil set play taught to us by no other than OG Friz God KJ.
By the Grace of God (or whatever you do/don’t believe in), the cards were in our favor for this game and it started on a strong note. We began on offense and had 2 yummy breaks afterwards. We were hungry and determined to show em’ what were made of, despite almost everyone’s Pick Ems …smh. It must be noted that prior to the game, Zach told us, “If we (his team) are up by 4 points, Luke can play on your team…” PFFFT looks like we didn’t need Luke in the slightest (no offense Mr. Alexander). Starting off the game with 3 scores in a row was just unheard of by the Potters and our offensive strat was absolutely cookin’!!! Shortly after our mini break train, Short Stack came in full force and broke us. Womp womp. The score was 3-2 but we ain’t done just yet. With Kate, KJ, and Dustin’s solid handling, we had another triple break train and won half 8-7. After half, we were ready to bring home the JA(c)K Pot and started chefing it up in the kitchen (Field 1). Short Stack scored twice making it 8-10, BUT WE CAME BACKA CHUGGIN. With not 3.. not 4… but 5 scores in a row! Can a brotha get a choo choo. Landon (Kate’s offspring), Poki, and fearless captain Jemima (me) were hype on the sideline supporting our silly little teammates. Short Stack put up a solid offense against our zone defense and I was thrilled to see the energy everyone had out there. Assists, scores, and Ds were distributed all around our squad and I couldn’t be more proud of every single person’s hard efforts out there. What a joy to see a range of ages running and getting after that flyin disc.
Are you a bright yellow Sharpie? Because I’m bouta HIGHLIGHT some stellar plays made by Short Stack (pretend to laugh please). Starting with their FMPs. Resident red head Michelle was magnificent in the handler space and was constantly making our zone werrrrk. Larissa had some sick snags and wide open catches in the end zone that us Potters were simply not locked in enough to defend. Maddie and Danielle had some great cuts and unbelievable snags. There was a point where Hannah Poki attempted a D but Maddie ended up catching it anyways. What a beast. Onto our MMPs. Despite having ankle problems (I think), Zach killed it in the handler space, along with Kevin and Clyde. They constantly swung the disc to each other, had solid flow and patience, which in turn made our zone real tired at times. Brandon was always open despite our defense and Mo had some stellar Ds. Great playing Short Stack!!
Allow me to highlight my cool, swag, awesomesauce team!!! Starting with our FMPs. Kate had 2 amazing assists and 1 score. Long limbed red head Poki had 2 scores and Hayley had a sick assist to Champion as our winning point. As for our MMPs, Dustin balled out with a total of 5 assists and 2 scores. Andrew had 2 assists and 3 scores making himself a reliable cutter in the deep space. Despite making some silly throws, Aiden earned himself an assist and 2 scores. OG Plant was back from sickness last week and came back so strong, he got himself 3 scores. His offspring was on his wavelength and Champion had 2 scores. My favorite memory of this game was probably after Champion’s first goal, Poki and I sung “We Are the Champions,” and it was hysterical. Caio was 1 for 1 on assists and scores despite some hip problems. Ryan, Anton, and KJ were essential parts of our set play and made it run smooooothly.
This game was nothing short of spectacular as we clinched a 15-11 victory, proving many doubters wrong. Despite skepticism due to our young captains and being underestimated by others, we showed incredible teamwork, skill, and determination on the field. This win is a testament to our collective effort and belief in our abilities. If we play our cards right, we might be cookin’ next week too. #WhoIsJak and #WhereIsThePot
Peace, Love, and Frisbee,
J-$wag (Jemima)
