Unfortunately due to work I showed up late to the game but once I found my field and team they were already off to a great start and up by two breaks.
We appeared to have pretty good chemistry on the field for the first point I was able to watch and I got to see my draft gamble Dave Klinges in action for the first time and was very pleased with what I saw. We had excellent movement from the entire team with Adub, Asa, and Phil working as our primary handlers and great movement throughout the field from everyone else.
White team was not going to let us win this game without a fight though. The double threat of Drew^2 made sure we had to keep our throws safe and pressured our offense.
Eventually the score got to 6-3 (if my memory serves me correctly) at which point Dave had to call injury. After this white quickly rallied while we tried to adjust our strategies for offense and defense. The score came to 7-6 and we started to get a little worried that the game might get away from us. We were able to score and head to half and take some time to regroup.
The second half went well for us and our team started to gel well together. Monica and Natalie both had excellent catches off dime hammers from Adub and Mikey. Phil was a constant force for good disc movement. The whole second half Dave kept our team spirits high and provided feedback from the sideline and helped coach some of the newer players. The game got to 14-10 and we were feeling good and we were able to capitalize on a great D by league newcomer Rainer to seal the game away.
Final score: Gold 15-10 over white
After the game we all lined up and bumped elbows. I totally blanked on giving White a cheer, but Justin made sure to remind us. Not a good excuse but it has been a long time since we have been able to play a good game of ultimate; it is good to be back.
White played very well and we have to give MVP creds to Drew Ward who played savage and really helped the offense and defensive sides of white team.
Gold’s MVP of the week is Mikey who worked to help explain forces and zones with the newer players as well as being an awesome team player and having a great attitude despite having to play almost every point.
